Dear Neighbors,
We want to make you aware that high winds and an increased risk of severe weather are forecasted for today, which may include sudden gusts, falling debris, and potential power interruptions.
To help protect yourself, your neighbors, and the community, we ask that you take the following precautions as soon as possible:
Before & During the Storm
Please take time today to:
- Secure or bring inside any outdoor furniture (including umbrellas), decorations, or loose items on patios and front door landings
- If you have not brought your trash/recycle containers inside your patio, please do so.
- Ensure all windows and doors are fully closed and locked
- Park vehicles away from trees or unsecured objects where possible
If a Tree Comes Down or There Is Property Damage
- Do not approach fallen trees or downed power lines — always assume lines are live
- If a tree, branch, or debris is blocking access, damaging common property, or creating a hazard, report it to the Stonehurst Board as soon as it is safe to do so
- For immediate danger to people or structures, contact 911 or local emergency services first
If the Power Goes Out
- Check whether the outage is limited to your home or affects the wider area
- Report the outage to the local utility provider if needed
- Avoid using candles; use flashlights or battery-powered lighting instead
- Keep refrigerator and freezer doors closed as much as possible to preserve food
- If you rely on electric-powered medical equipment, ensure you have a backup plan
Tornado & Severe Weather Preparedness
While tornadoes are uncommon, conditions today may increase the risk. We recommend residents:
- Identify the safest place in your house (your basement, an interior room, hallway, or bathroom away from windows)
- Have a basic emergency plan for your household, including pets
- Monitor local weather alerts and emergency notifications and follow official instructions promptly
